Stablecoin-margined XRP open interest on Binance fell to about $186 million on July 31, its lowest level since April 2025, according to CryptoQuant. Bybit held roughly $229 million in the same contract type, about $43 million more than Binance.
XRP trades near $1.03, putting the token roughly 3% above the $1 level that has become the market's most closely watched threshold.
Binance carried more stablecoin-margined XRP open interest than Bybit in every prior snapshot tracked, including roughly $222 million against $195 million in March and about $205 million against $185 million in June.
The July 31 reading shows that XRP leverage has shifted between venues.
Snapshot Binance XRP OI Bybit XRP OI Venue gap Market read March ~$222M ~$195M Binance +$27M Binance led June ~$205M ~$185M Binance +$20M Binance still led July 31 ~$186M ~$229M Bybit +$43M Bybit takes leadGlassnode's broader Aug. 5 dataset tracks total XRP futures open interest across every venue. It put Binance's open interest at $376.1 million, above KuCoin's $334.4 million and Bybit's $253.3 million.
Binance still leads the broader futures market, with KuCoin as the second-largest venue when all contract types are counted. The CryptoQuant signal describes where stablecoin-margined leverage specifically sits within a much larger futures market.
What the XRP leverage divergence could meanLower open interest on one venue means less leverage sitting there to get forcibly closed during a sharp move.
If Bybit's book stays larger while Binance's shrinks, XRP's deleveraging is happening unevenly across venues. A forced liquidation on one exchange spreads through arbitrage and market-maker activity, carrying the price move across other venues, so a holder who never touches Bybit can still feel a decline that started there.
Glassnode's Aug. 5 data put Bybit funding at plus 0.001% and Binance at plus 0.003%, with the open-interest-weighted total across venues near 0.002%, close to flat. At this stage, the $229 million figure works best as a venue-concentration signal to keep watching as XRP nears $1.
Scenario Directional share of Bybit OI Forced-close share Estimated vulnerable notional Base stress 25% 25% ~$14M Bearish break 45% 50% ~$52M Cascade 65% 75% ~$112MCoinGlass puts total XRP derivatives open interest near $2.36 billion, more than six times the token's roughly $379 million in 24-hour spot volume. That gap leaves plenty of leveraged exposure to work through relative to the market's buying and selling.
Assuming 45% of Bybit's $229 million book is directional and half of that gets forced closed in a break, roughly $52 million in notional would be vulnerable. Push those assumptions to a cascade scenario, 65% directional and 75% forced-closed, and the number climbs toward $112 million.
Those are stress assumptions built on the raw open-interest number, a way to size the risk before entry levels and positioning data confirm which way it leans.
Where the price-target models pointThe $1.05-$1.10 range became a key support zone in late June. A break below $1.05 would turn focus toward $1.00, while a reclaim of $1.18 to $1.30 would be needed to break the broader bearish structure.
CryptoSlate's Aug. 6 tracking of Polymarket odds showed traders pricing a 71.5% chance XRP touches $1 in August, compared with 18% for a move to $1.20. Those are binary threshold bets tied to Binance's one-minute price candles, useful for gauging trader sentiment more than for forecasting a price.
The Fed held its target rate at 3.50%-3.75% on July 29, with three officials dissenting in favor of a hike and the statement describing inflation as still elevated. Crypto has also lagged the broader risk rally.
XRP's exposure to the $1 test also depends on Bitcoin. Bitcoin absorbed selling around its $62,000 to $65,000 cost-basis range, while weak stablecoin market-cap growth and low volatility pointed to conditions that often precede a larger directional move.
A sharp Bitcoin swing would test XRP's $1 level at the same time it tests Bitcoin's own support, a scenario neither market may be well positioned to absorb on its own.
Which way the $1 test resolvesThe bull case has Binance's deleveraging turning out to be the real signal. XRP holds $1.04 support, open interest keeps falling on Bybit as well as Binance, and funding stays flat while spot buying absorbs whatever leveraged selling remains.
A reclaim of the 20-day and 50-day averages near $1.08 and $1.12 opens the path to $1.20. From there, room opens toward the $1.37 to $1.47 range if the move gains real spot participation.
The bear case has XRP leverage on Bybit becoming the stress point that the data cannot yet rule out. XRP loses $1.04, then $1, while Bybit's stablecoin-margined open interest holds near current levels even as Binance's keeps falling.
Scenario Trigger Leverage signal to watch Price zone Bull case XRP holds $1.04 and reclaims $1.08–$1.12 Bybit OI falls, funding stays flat, spot absorbs selling $1.20, then $1.37–$1.47 Base case XRP chops above $1 while OI declines Leverage continues to unwind without forced selling $1.04–$1.12 Bear case XRP loses $1.04, then $1 Bybit OI remains elevated as price falls $0.95–$0.97 Tail risk $0.80 breaks after a broader crypto selloff Liquidations and BTC weakness reinforce each other $0.65–$0.95If Polymarket's 71.5% odds on a $1 touch are validated, the decline could run toward the $0.95 to $0.97 zone, and a break of $0.80 would open the wider $0.65 to $0.95 range further out.
Binance's leverage reset is real, but whether it describes XRP's whole market still depends on what Bybit's book does next.

Why this matters
XRP is showing up inside the Stablecoins theme, so this story is worth tracking for follow-through rather than treating it as a one-off headline.
