One of the main members of the BRICS coalition has revealed that the alliance is progressing towards expanding its membership to include more countries.
According to the Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, BRICS is currently considering proposals from multiple countries interested in joining the group.
The BRICS alliance, formed by emerging economies as a counter to the dominance of the US dollar, consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, and has now expanded to include more neighboring nations.
During a recent summit in South Africa, President Lula stood alongside President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela and expressed his willingness to discuss the possibility of Venezuela joining BRICS.
“It’s the first BRICS meeting in which I will participate after eight years. There are several proposals from other countries that want to join the BRICS. We are going to discuss this.”
The notes continued and said the following:
“Because it does not depend on the will of Brazil, it depends on the will of us all. We are going to discuss this. If there is an official request, this request will be officially taken to the BRICS and there will we decide. And if you ask me, I am in favor of it.”
