Dogecoin Gets an EVM App Layer for DeFi and Games as DogeOS Opens Its Public Testnet

DogeOS, an application layer for Dogecoin built by the team behind the MyDoge wallet, opened its public testnet on Wednesday, giving developers an EVM-compatible place to build apps for DOGE.

The network is a zero-knowledge rollup that settles its state to Dogecoin, with DOGE used to pay transaction fees. Because it is EVM-compatible, developers who already write apps for Ethereum and other EVM chains can use the tools they know.

“The testnet gives builders a place to turn ideas for Dogecoin into working applications,” said Jordan Jefferson, DogeOS’s founder and CEO. “Today marks the beginning of Dogecoin’s evolution from asset to ecosystem.”

DogeOS named a slate of teams building on the testnet. They include Barkswap (a liquidity engine), Superposition Finance (lending), Derps (perpetual futures), Split Markets (options) and USDoge, a CDP stablecoin, along with launchpads, a prediction market aggregator and several games. DogeOS said availability will depend on each team’s schedule.

Timothy Stebbing, director of the Dogecoin Foundation, backed the project in the announcement. “L1 ledger purity must stay intact while we introduce utility one layer above, and that is what DogeOS represents to me,” he said.

No Mainnet Date Yet

For now, Dogecoin itself does not check DogeOS’s zero-knowledge proofs. Jefferson told The Block that the bridge instead requires valid proofs plus signatures from a majority of DogeOS’s validators and a trusted execution environment (TEE) signer, and the network runs a permissioned sequencer.

That could change if Dogecoin adopts OP_CHECKZKP, a new opcode proposed in July 2025 that would let the network verify zero-knowledge proofs natively. The upgrade has not been implemented.

“We’ll share the mainnet timeline as we reach the next development milestones,” Jefferson told The Block.

DogeOS raised $6.9 million in a round led by Polychain Capital in May 2025.

DOGE traded near $0.096 on Thursday morning, up about 2.6% over 24 hours, according to CoinGecko.
