Follow us on Google NewsThe company revealed a large Bitcoin move that left investors scratch their heads for a moment, trying to figure out whether the company was selling off its stake. The movement was a custody transfer but the company’s total holding of Bitcoins remained at 43,000, said its chief executive Simon Gerovich.
We transferred 5,014 BTC between Metaplanet custodial addresses over the past 24 hours. This was a routine custody operation. No bitcoin was sold, and our holdings remain 43,000 BTC.
All of our addresses are published, which is why the transfers were observable in real time.…

Metaplanet Moves 5,014 BTCOver a 24-hour period, Metaplanet transferred 5,014 BTC between its custodial addresses. Based on the value cited by Gerovich, the Bitcoin involved was worth roughly $322 million at the time of the transfer.
The executive said that they had not sold any of those coins. Instead, Bitcoins were transferred from one different address also owned from Metaplanet into other addresses as a typical part of battery custody.
Transfer could be seen on-chain, as Metaplanet publicly shows up its Bitcoin addresses. With that transparency, blockchain observers could monitor the moves as they took place, but these were not actions that involved a change in the company’s Bitcoin holdings.
“Our holdings remain 43,000 BTC,” Gerovich said.

$322M Bitcoin Transfer Cost Just $8 Bitcoin Network Fees Remain Tiny for Large TransfersThe total network fees used to move roughly $322 million worth of bitcoin was about $8, said Gerovich.
That figure highlights one of Bitcoin’s key features: transaction costs are not directly tied to the dollar value being transferred. Depending on network conditions, transaction size and fee rates, it may be possible, for a relatively small fee, to execute an operation for millions or hundreds of millions of dollars.
For the large corporate who holds billions of dollars’ worth of bitcoins, effective crypto holding can thus be able to relocate significant chunks of BTC without developing a big expense of deal costs.
Metaplanet Keeps Its Bitcoin Strategy IntactThe new transfer has no impact on Metaplanet’s reported Bitcoin position. The bottomline is that it has been building its balance sheet around BTC, and as it accumulates more holdings, it is increasingly concerned with custody management.
Additionally, the 43,000 BTC amount also places the company among the top corporate Bitcoin holders worldwide. It has gone beyond just buying into Bitcoin, and the firm has also been eyeing activities in Japan’s digital-asset ecosystem.
In March Metaplanet began launching a brand-new venture, Metaplanet Ventures, to invest 4 billion yen (around $25 million) in the Japanese cryptocurrency and infrastructure space over a span of 2-3 years.
The company has also established ambitious accumulation goals: by 2026, the company aims to accumulate 100,000BTC, and by 2027, the company is aiming to accumulate 210,000BTC.
As more BTC accrues to the public records, it will be a dead giveaway of massive wallet transfers, and with it, many eyes will be on it. According to Metaplanet in this instance, though, it was just a custody glitch, rather than a Bitcoin sale, that saw the $322 million transfer.
