It has been just revealed the fact that a Binance counter-terrorism official has just left the exchange following two years in the role. Check out the latest reports about the matter below.
Binance counter-terrorism official leaves the roleJennifer Hicks, Binance’s Senior Counter-Terrorism Official, has left the cryptocurrency exchange as per her LinkedIn profile.
After serving with Binance for nearly two years, Hicks left the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange this month.
Prior to joining Binance, she worked with Chainalysis and the U.S. Navy as an investigative specialist. Bloomberg was the first to report the news of her departure.
Recently, there has been a growing concern about the role of cryptocurrency in financing terrorism.
This issue became a hot topic in the U.S. where Hicks was based while working with Binance. A report alleged that Hamas and other militant groups raised millions worth of crypto before launching a brutal attack on Israel.
In light of this, U.S. lawmakers have called for President Joe Biden to provide further information on the potential use of crypto by Hamas.
After the report was released, Elliptic, a blockchain forensics firm, stated that the recent figures used to illustrate the scale of crypto fundraising by terrorist groups were misrepresented.
Despite this, cryptocurrency exchanges, particularly Binance, have been under heavy scrutiny by regulators, especially in the United States, due to their know-your-customer and counter-terrorism procedures. Binance has yet to respond to a request for comment.
In other news, Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume, is launching futures trading for Powerledger (POWR). This Ethereum-based altcoin has surged over 50% in a week.
Binance announced that it would be offering futures contracts with leverage of up to 50x for Powerledger, which is a decentralized energy market built on top of ETH.
Powerledger aims to support the decentralization of the energy grid, assist in shifting towards renewable energy, and allow consumers to keep track of their power usage, according to its official website.
