It has been reported the fact that a guaranteed income pilot is preparing for launch in a US county. Check out the latest reports about this below.
Guaranteed income pilot to launchA new basic income program is being launched in Humboldt County, California, which aims to provide financial assistance to pregnant women living below the poverty line.
The program, called the Humboldt Income Program, will run for 18 months and has a budget of $2.484 million.
The program is designed to help 150 pregnant women in their first or second trimester who are living below 200% of the federal poverty line.
Participants will receive a monthly payment of $920 on top of any benefits they receive from the government or other charitable programs.
The sign-up process for the Humboldt Income Program began on December 1st, 2023 and will be open until May 30th, 2024. To be eligible for the program, interested applicants must be referred by one of the program’s partners.
The program will be managed by the McKinleyville Family Resource Center, an organization based in California that aims to “develop programs that support, enrich, and sustain healthy community life.”
Robin Baker, the program manager, tells KRCR-TV, an ABC-affiliated news station, that the project aims to challenge existing beliefs on why some people struggle with their finances.
“There’s a lot of misunderstanding about why people live in poverty and it’s not because people are making bad choices with their money, it’s because they don’t have access to money for a variety of different reasons.”
After being selected, participants will receive payments on the 25th of each month via direct bank deposits or pre-paid debit cards.
In other recent news, JPMorgan Chase is facing fresh allegations of abruptly closing a customer’s bank account due to unfounded concerns of suspicious activity.
A user on the r/Chase Reddit forum claims that their new Chase bank account was shut down without any explanation or prior warning.
