Samsung Wallet Brings USDC Transfers to 82 Million US Galaxy Devices in Late October

Samsung announced Oct. 7 that eligible Galaxy users in the US will be able to send USDC from Samsung Wallet starting in the last week of October. The feature will be available across 82 million compatible US Galaxy devices at launch, Samsung said, and USDC will be the first stablecoin the wallet supports.

Samsung said it charges no fee for USDC sent to external crypto wallets abroad, though the receiving wallet or exchange may add its own. Delivery speed varies with network conditions. Recipients without a crypto wallet can be paid through bank accounts in more than 60 countries, in local currency, Samsung said. Samsung said fees on bank transfers vary by destination and amount and appear in the app before a sender confirms.

“Sending money abroad should feel as convenient as using the wallet already on your phone,” said Woncheol Chai, an executive vice president who leads Samsung’s digital wallet team, in the release.

Custody and Network Partners

Samsung said cross-border transfers will run on Bastion, a stablecoin custodian that holds a license and falls under US regulatory oversight. Bastion has named Coinbase its sub-custodian, so all USDC in the wallet will be held through Coinbase Prime Vault. Samsung said it holds no customer funds, and that the accounts, custody and money movement come from regulated partners rather than Samsung itself. Transfers require biometric authentication on a registered device.

Samsung said blockchain network support will come from separate partners, including Solana and Sui. The Solana Foundation said both Samsung Wallet and Samsung Pay will carry stablecoins that run on Solana, while the Sui Foundation said Samsung Wallet selected Sui as its blockchain infrastructure partner for USDC. Lily Liu, president of the Solana Foundation, said in that release that Samsung’s decision “puts digital dollars into everyday life through one of the world’s most trusted technology brands.”

Who Can Use It

Samsung said the service is limited to eligible US residents 18 or older who hold a Samsung Account and use a Galaxy device on Android 13 or newer. Users must also register, verify their identity and set up biometrics.

Samsung called the launch the next chapter of its work with Coinbase. In 2025, Samsung Pay began rolling out as a payment option in the Coinbase app. Samsung said future capabilities may include paying with stablecoins online or by tapping a device in stores, followed by potential expansion into additional markets.

Block’s Cash App began rolling out USDC support to its nearly 60 million users in May.
