It has been just revealed that the crypto space is seeing a new launch these days. Check out the latest reports about this below.
Matter Labs reveals new launchMatter Labs, the developer behind Ethereum Layer 2 zkSync Era, has unveiled a new proof system called Boojum. This STARK-powered system can be run on consumer-grade GPU hardware, offering high performance.
Boojum is based on a new Rust-based cryptographic library from zkSync, which powers the upgraded Zero-Knowledge (ZK) circuits used in zkSync Era and ZK Stack. Previously, zkSync Era relied on a proof system called SNARKs, which helped its Layer 2 sequencer process more than 100 transactions per second (TPS). Boojum, based on STARKs, promises even greater throughput, according to the team.
According to The Block, a prover is a component that generates a proof of computation in the context of Layer 2 solutions for blockchains. The main blockchain (Layer 1) or other validators then verify this proof.
The purpose is to reduce the workload on the main blockchain and increase scalability for applications.
Faster transaction proofs“The increased performance from Boojum means the system can prove transactions faster, and the reduced hardware requirements improve the network’s access to cheaper machines for increased horizontal scalability,” Anthony Rose, SVP of technology at Matter Labs, told The Block.
Boojum is unique for its capability to operate on GPUs that are commonly used by consumers, with only 16 GB of GPU RAM needed.
This feature makes it more accessible and inclusive, allowing individuals with standard hardware to take part in the network.
The Boojum upgrade is presently available on the mainnet during an experimental phase. In this initial stage, it creates and verifies ‘shadow proofs’ utilizing genuine production data.
This testing procedure will aid in perfecting the zkSync Era system, detecting any potential problems, and minimizing risks prior to the full migration.
