Ethereum (ETH) Price Prediction: ETH Tests $1,870 as Bulls Eye $1,940 While Breakdown Risk Points to $1,500

Ethereum price is sitting at an increasingly important point in its short-term structure as price consolidates near the $1,850-$1,900 region. The charts currently present a mixed picture, with some traders looking for a support retest and recovery while others see the recent consolidation as distribution before another leg lower. At the time of writing, Ethereum price is trading near $1,874, down around 2.15% over the past 24 hours.

ETH Retest Around $1,870 Could Decide the Next Move

Crypto_Scient is watching the current pullback as a potential long opportunity, with the chart placing the main reaction area around $1,850-$1,870. Ethereum price has spent several sessions moving back and forth through this region, making the next reaction increasingly important.

If buyers defend the zone, the chart suggests another push through $1,900 could follow, with $1,940-$1,950 becoming the first meaningful upside target. Failure to hold the retest, however, would expose the lower range and weaken the recovery that started from the July lows.

Consolidation Leaves Two Very Different Scenarios

ETH price remains trapped beneath resistance near $1,940, and Eliz sees the current range as a liquidity-building phase rather than a confirmed directional move.

The bullish scenario would involve price sweeping the lower part of the range before recovering towards $1,940 and eventually breaking higher. The bearish alternative is considerably deeper, with the chart leaving room for a move towards approximately $1,650-$1,670 before buyers regain control.

This makes $1,940 one of the cleaner confirmation levels on the upside, while a sustained loss of $1,850 would make a deeper liquidity sweep increasingly likely.

Distribution Structure Raises $1,500 Risk

The bearish case becomes more significant on the higher-timeframe structure. Poseidon highlighted what appears to be a distribution range forming above former resistance, with Ethereum price repeatedly failing to extend meaningfully beyond the upper-$1,900s.

If that distribution resolves lower, the chart points towards the previous range low near $1,500-$1,550. That scenario would represent a much larger reset and would effectively erase most of the recovery that developed from the June-July bottom.

The bearish setup therefore becomes more convincing if ETH loses $1,850 and then fails to recover the level on a retest.

Major HTF Support Still Offers a Bullish Alternative

Not every higher-timeframe ETH chart is bearish. Famous crypto analyst Blade identifies the current region as one of the most important structural areas for Ethereum, with a major HTF support zone sitting around $1,800-$1,900.

The chart presents two sharply different outcomes. A reclaim and successful hold of this zone could develop into a deviation setup, opening a recovery towards $2,050 and $2,200-$2,300. A confirmed rejection below it, however, would strengthen the breakdown scenario and expose approximately $1,600 followed by $1,450-$1,500.

Ethereum’s Current Range Dynamics

Ethereum does not necessarily need an immediate breakout to improve the setup. What matters first is whether buyers can keep absorbing weakness around $1,850-$1,870 and prevent the current consolidation from turning into a confirmed distribution phase.

A move back through $1,940-$1,950 would be the first meaningful change in character, particularly if ETH can then hold above $1,900 on a retest. That would bring $2,000-$2,050 back into reach. By contrast, repeated failures below $1,900 followed by a loss of $1,850 would make the lower liquidity zones around $1,650 and $1,500-$1,550 increasingly relevant.

Final Thoughts: Ethereum Is Still Waiting for Direction

Ethereum currently sits in an awkward middle ground. Buyers still have a workable base around the upper-$1,800s, but the market has yet to produce enough strength above $1,940-$1,950 to confirm that the recent recovery is ready for another leg higher.

For now, the bullish case strengthens above $1,950, opening $2,000 and potentially $2,200, while a breakdown beneath $1,850 would shift attention towards $1,650 first and potentially the $1,500 region later. Until either boundary gives way, the Ethereum price prediction remains split between recovery and a deeper reset.

Why this matters

Ethereum is showing up inside the Market Structure theme, so this story is worth tracking for follow-through rather than treating it as a one-off headline.
