Crypto data firm Blockworks launched a server on Thursday that brings its crypto data, covering more than 40,000 assets, into ChatGPT, Claude and other AI assistants. The company says its customers, from exchanges to funds, increasingly ask AI assistants for market data.
“A growing share of our customers’ workflows happen in ChatGPT or Claude,” Blockworks co-founder Jason Yanowitz said in a statement shared with Unchained. “The agent has no way to check a number, so the data has to be standardized and sourced before it ever gets there.”

How It WorksBlockworks’ server uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that lets AI tools reach outside data. Customers can hook it up to ChatGPT, Claude, the coding tool Cursor or any other MCP-compatible assistant and request Blockworks figures by typing ordinary questions, according to the company.
Blockworks says ChatGPT also lists its connector as an official app. Answers arrive with their sources attached, and the assistant can chart them, the company says. Customers need a Blockworks API subscription to access the product.
“Agents are going to be the biggest users of financial data,” Yanowitz said in the statement. “We want every number we have one call away for them, with the source attached.”
Behind the server sits the Unified API, a single-key data feed Blockworks released on Sept. 24. It merges Blockworks’ data with that of crypto research and data firm Messari, which Blockworks bought back in June.
The feed covers more than 300 exchanges. It also has financials for over 400 DeFi protocols, laid out the same way so they can be compared side by side, along with research, news, fundraising rounds and token unlock schedules.
Messari already runs a similar server for its enterprise clients. Asked whether that server would wind down following the launch, Yanowitz told Unchained: “Yes, but not immediately. Messari’s MCP will stay up while customers transition over, then we’ll turn it off.”
Checking the Model’s WorkWhen it comes to AI, clean data going in does not necessarily guarantee a correct answer coming out. When restating, adding up or comparing a given set of numbers, a model can pull an accurate figure but still report it wrong, leaving the user with bad data that appears sourced. Yanowitz told Unchained that Blockworks has “both agents and humans across research analysts, data analysts and data engineers checking every number before it reaches a model.”
“And every answer comes back with the raw figures and sources, so anyone can check the model’s work,” he said.
Blockworks is not the first crypto data provider with an MCP server. CoinGecko runs one, and CoinMarketCap lets agents without an API key pay 0.01 USDC per call on its version. Yanowitz told Unchained the differentiator is breadth. “We combined the breadth of Messari data with the depth of Blockworks data,” he said, explaining that the server returns more than 20 kinds of data in one place, from ETFs and treasury companies to governance proposals and podcasts.
The launch comes two weeks after Blockworks rolled out Agentic Detection, a monitoring feature that sends compliance teams alerts flagged by AI agents.
