Crypto Swap Quotes Can Vary More Than Users Think: What Live Rate Data Reveals

The difference is easy to miss when users focus on the exchange rate or a low-fee claim. In the end, the more useful number is how much crypto the provider says it will send to your wallet.

Comparing Crypto Swap Quotes Is Trickier Than It Looks

Monivo, a non-custodial crypto swap aggregator, recently analyzed live provider quotes to see how much swap rates can differ when users request the same trade.

Through its Crypto Swap Rate Index, the platform compared quotes for the same trading pair, send amount, rate type, and observation moment, providing a clearer picture of the price differences users may encounter when swapping crypto.

A useful crypto quote comparison only works when the trade conditions match.

Take a BTC-to-ETH swap as an example. If one provider quotes a floating rate and another quotes a fixed rate, the two offers operate differently. Pull one quote now and another a few minutes later, and normal market movement can also get mixed into the comparison.

The send amount matters as well. Pricing a small swap and pricing a much larger one can produce different results, so comparing two providers only makes sense when the trade conditions match.

For its research, Monivo groups quotes requested at the same moment for the same pair, send amount, and rate type. At least two connected providers need to return a usable quote before that group is included in the spread calculation.

In other words, the comparison looks at what different providers offered for the same request rather than comparing unrelated rates collected at different times.

What the Latest Crypto Swap Rate Data Shows

Monivo’s 30-day crypto swap rate data showed a noticeable gap between the best and worst quotes in the sample.

When the index was checked on August 31, 2026, with its latest observation recorded at 06:50 UTC, it contained over 1,000 provider quotes from eight providers. The sample covered 17 trading pairs and included 171 comparable quote sets.

Across the sample, crypto swap spreads had a median best-to-worst difference of 2.55%, with a mean of 2.77%.

Some pairs showed wider differences.

Among the ten pairs with the most comparable sets displayed in the index, XMR to BTC recorded the largest median spread at 3.65%. Its widest observed gap during the same window was 4.90%.

USDT to XMR followed with a 3.07% median spread. BTC to USDT reached 2.41%.

The difference was smaller for some of the major crypto pairs, but it did not disappear. BTC to ETH recorded a median spread of 1.96%, while ETH to BTC came in at 1.71%.

For users comparing a swap, those numbers can be more useful than looking at an advertised fee alone. A service charging a lower stated fee does not necessarily return the highest payout once the full quote is calculated.

Why Monivo Does Not Rank Providers

Monivo does not currently rank the eight providers from best to worst.

The providers did not answer across a sufficiently comparable share of the quote sets during the selected window. Some appeared in more comparable sets than others, which means a simple leaderboard could favor providers with narrower or uneven coverage.

Monivo therefore withheld the ranking instead of presenting a result that could be distorted by uneven sampling. That makes the comparison more useful: the data shows how quotes differed within comparable sets without turning incomplete coverage into a provider ranking.

A best vs. worst crypto quote should also be treated as a snapshot of that particular comparison, not as a permanent result.

Liquidity depth, network costs, and market volatility can all affect the quote a provider returns. A provider that comes first for one pair or amount may not necessarily do the same for another.

For users, checking the quoted payout at the time of the comparison gives a more useful answer than assuming one provider will always have the better rate.

How Monivo Builds the Rate Index

The Crypto Swap Rate Index combines two sources of live quotes.

A scheduled panel requests quotes for a fixed set of pairs and sends the amounts every 10 minutes. Real comparison requests made by Monivo visitors can also be added to the dataset once the connected providers capable of handling that route have responded.

Quotes inside each set are requested together. Monivo then normalizes them based on the amount received per unit sent and measures the difference between the highest and lowest payout.

For each comparable set, the spread is calculated as (highest payout – lowest payout) ÷ lowest payout. The result shows how much higher the best quote was than the lowest quote in that set.

There are limits to what the numbers can tell us.

Only providers connected to Monivo are included, and only for pairs they support. The index is therefore a sample of quotes obtained through Monivo rather than a record of every available exchange or swap provider.

Quoted amounts should not be confused with completed trades either. A quote can expire or change when the order is created, particularly with floating rates.

The numbers also update as new observations are added to the dataset.

A Better Look at the Rate Before Swapping

Crypto exchange price differences have always existed, but live crypto swap research makes those gaps easier to put into context.

Instead of comparing fee claims or rates captured at different times, Monivo’s data focuses on the responses from several providers when they receive the same request.

Clearly malformed upstream quotes, such as obvious unit or decimal errors that fall far outside the rest of their comparison set, are excluded under Monivo’s published methodology. Poor but plausible quotes remain in the sample.

Users and researchers who want to follow those differences can check the Monivo Crypto Swap Rate Index, where the figures are updated as new live quote sets are recorded.

For anyone planning a swap, it is a useful reminder to compare the amount coming back to the wallet, not only the number shown next to “fee.”
