Delivering high performance while reducing hardware upgrade costs, Proto Rig represents a significant advancement for Bitcoin infrastructure, especially as older and bulkier ASIC models reach the end of their lifespan.
While institutional miners prepare for a hardware renaissance, retail investors are focused on something else: low-cap altcoins with strong utility narratives.
From Bitcoin Layer 2 scaling to noncustodial wallets and decentralized mining alternatives, a new generation of altcoin projects is experiencing surging demand.
Bitcoin Mining Just Got Smarter With Proto RigJack Dorsey’s Block Inc. has officially joined the Bitcoin mining competition, sending a clear message: Hardware no longer needs to be disposable.
The company’s Proto Rig, a modular Bitcoin miner built to operate for over a decade, is a more efficient alternative to traditional ASIC mining infrastructure, which needs to be replaced entirely every few years.
With Proto Rig, miners can quickly hot-swap individual hash boards without tools or downtime.

Debuted at a Core Scientific facility in Georgia, Proto Rig provides an impressive 819 TH/s of power across nine hash boards and reduces hardware upgrade costs by 15–20% per cycle. It’s all contained in a rack-optimized form factor that offers 1.5 times the power density of most legacy rigs.
Paired with Proto Fleet, a new open-source miner management software suite, Block offers a comprehensive full-stack mining infrastructure that competes with anything else on the market.

As U.S. trade tensions disrupt Bitcoin mining hardware imports, Dorsey’s new solution could change how and where Bitcoin is mined on a large scale. With Bitmain and others now racing to establish U.S. manufacturing, Block may have just gained an edge in a high-stakes race.
Modular design is not just an upgrade but a rethink of how mining hardware should function. Block’s move could give the US-based mining ecosystem a significant advantage.
Still, this is just the hardware layer and a playground for wealthy investors. For most crypto investors aiming to multiply their holdings, the software layer and the tokens that drive it that should be prioritized.
Here are the altcoins worth watching next, as the crypto mining infrastructure levels up.
1. Bitcoin Hyper: The Layer 2 That Supercharges $BTCIf Proto Rig upgrades Bitcoin’s mining rig, Bitcoin Hyper upgrades its entire ecosystem.
Bitcoin Hyper is a Layer 2 for Bitcoin built on the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM), bringing speedy, cheap transactions to Bitcoin, without compromising its base-layer security.
Here’s how it works:
Bitcoin Hyper working mechanism
It all sounds great, but don’t we already have too many coins that promise too much and deliver too little?
This is exactly where Bitcoin Hyper stands out and why it attracts serious investors seeking early entry. The project’s devnet is already live, and according to the latest update this month, Bitcoin Hyper now runs Solana programs natively on its roll-up architecture.
The team confirms support for deploying Solana programs, calling Solana, viewing Solana logs, and retrieving Solana configurations.
The presale numbers show increasing interest in its native token $HYPER, with nearly $10M raised in just a few weeks. Early supporters can buy the token at fixed, discounted prices. It is currently priced at $0.012725, but the next price increase is just a day away; investors need to act fast.
While Dorsey upgrades how Bitcoin is mined, Hyper is upgrading what it’s actually used for.
2. Best Wallet: Where Self-Custody Meets User ExperiencePlay Store’s upcoming changes in crypto policies make it once again clear that noncustodial wallets are the future.
Custodial wallets will now need region-specific licences to stay listed, putting pressure on several well-known apps. But noncustodial wallets like Best Wallet are in the clear.
With Google’s crackdown on custodial crypto wallets, the Best Wallet Token ($BEST) presale is heating up, rapidly approaching the $15M mark. $BEST is the native crypto of the Best Wallet ecosystem, which also includes Best DEX, Best Card, Best Aggregator, Upcoming Tokens Portal, and more.
Best Wallet app
While the wallet and the presale discovery engine are already live, the remaining products are expected to go live over the coming months. The wallet already boasts a loyal community of over 250,000 users, with glowing reviews on both the Play Store and App Store.
Unlike clunky legacy wallets, Best Wallet is built for a multichain future. It plans to support over 60 blockchains (five live already) and features MPC-CMP level security.
$BEST token holders get early access to top-tier presales, lower fees, and dynamic staking rewards, in addition to perks in its upcoming iGaming ecosystem.
3. Accessible Mining for a New EraKaspa is a proof-of-work (PoW) cryptocurrency that uses a unique consensus protocol called GHOSTDAG, a scalable variation of Bitcoin’s Nakamoto consensus. Kaspa’s native crypto $KAS was one of the hottest cryptocurrencies in 2024, but has lost over 40% value this year, shedding its market cap to under $2.5B.

The altcoin is expected to reclaim its spotlight in the second half of 2025, and has already gained 3% this month. It is one of the top blue-chip altcoins to watch, given the growth potential of BlockDAG architecture, which allows multiple blocks per second without compromising security.
Kaspa is much faster than traditional PoW coins like Bitcoin and follows a decentralized mining system, making it accessible to individuals, not just large ASIC farms.
Can’t Afford a Proto Rig? Check Out these Altcoins for Big Gains Beyond BitcoinBlock’s new mining solution is revolutionary, but it’s not for everyone.
While small investors can’t afford to set up a mining rig, they can still make profits by investing in projects that will benefit from this infrastructure upgrade. Bitcoin Hyper, Best Wallet, and Kaspa are some of the projects designed for the new crypto era.
While Kaspa already has a ~2.5B market cap, it is still 55% down from its all-time high of $0.2075, leaving plenty of room for returns.
Bitcoin Hyper and Best Wallet, on the other hand, still offer low entry points for early backers at fixed prices. However, having raised close to $10M and $15M already, the presale windows are expected to close soon. Attractive dynamic staking rewards also await early investors.
As always, do your own research before investing in crypto. This is not financial advice.
