Watchlist
Fresh in the current trading session. Multiple named entities are involved.
- Kraken Desktop now includes a native fair value gap (FVG) indicator — add it from the Analysis sidebar and it identifies every imbalance on any candle chart, with no third-party script to import or maintain.
- Built-in filtering removes low-quality gaps by default, and every zone is scored Low, Medium, or High based on five objective checks including higher-timeframe agreement and volume.
- Opt-in price-return alerts fire the moment price taps a zone: one per zone, no spam, off by default.
- Inverse FVG (IFVG) detection and approximately 20 customization settings are included at launch.
If you trade with fair value gaps, the pitch is short: you already trust the concept. You probably just dislike maintaining the script.
Add the indicator from the Analysis sidebar, configure it to your workflow, and Kraken Desktop handles detection, filtering, scoring, and alerts. No imports. No third-party dependencies. Here’s what’s included.
What is a fair value gap?A fair value gap (FVG) is a three-candle price imbalance: a zone where price moved so fast in one direction that the wicks of the first and third candles don’t overlap, leaving a range that was never fully traded. In Smart Money Concepts (SMC) trading, these gaps are treated as zones of unfinished business. Price is considered likely to revisit and “rebalance” them before continuing its move.
Bullish FVGs form during sharp upward moves and are watched as potential support zones on a pullback. Bearish FVGs form during sharp downward moves and act as potential resistance on any bounce. Traders use them as confluence for entries: waiting for price to return to the gap rather than chasing the initial candle.
Real-time detectionEvery three-candle imbalance is identified and shaded in real time. Bullish FVGs and bearish FVGs are color-coded and labeled out of the box, on any timeframe and any candle chart type.
Only the gaps that matterThe most common complaint about community FVG scripts is chart clutter: every imbalance gets a box and the chart becomes unreadable. We ship with filtering on by default. Weak, low-quality gaps don’t surface. You can adjust the strictness or disable filtering entirely from settings.
Every zone scoredEach visible gap is ranked Low, Medium, or High based on five objective checks:
- Higher-timeframe agreement
- Retest count
- Gap size relative to recent price action
- Volume at formation
- Trend direction at time of formation
Hover over any zone to see exactly why it earned its score. Each score reflects objective chart confirmations present at formation. It is not a prediction of future price movement.
Higher-timeframe confirmationOptionally restrict the view to gaps that align with the higher timeframe’s own FVG structure and trend direction. If the setup agrees, it surfaces. If it doesn’t, it stays off the chart.
Alerts when the price returnsEnable notifications and we’ll send you an alert the moment the price re-enters a zone: for example, “BTC/USD: Bullish fair value gap tapped at 64,210.5.” One alert per zone. No repeats. Off by default.
It reduces the chart time that FVG trading has traditionally required.
Keep in mind that the indicator runs locally within Kraken Desktop. If you close the app, detection and alerts pause until you reopen it.
Inverse FVGsWhen price breaks fully through a gap, the zone flips and continues functioning in the opposite direction as an inverse fair value gap (IFVG). This is a specific, named request from the SMC trading community and is included at launch.
Make it yoursApproximately 20 settings are available: zone colors and opacity, fill criteria, filter strictness, visible zone count, and an option to hide gaps far from current price.
Open Kraken Desktop, open the Analysis sidebar on your chart, and add the fair value gap indicator.
