- Starting today, July 9, 2026, Kraken Pro fee tiers are based on the best of three measures: your spot trading volume, your futures trading volume, or your assets on platform (AOP).
- Whichever measure qualifies you for the highest tier is the one that applies, and that tier sets your rate on both spot and futures.
- AOP is assessed in real time, so eligible holdings can qualify you for a better tier even without recent trading activity.
- No action is required. Your account moves to the correct tier automatically. Full thresholds and rates are below and on the fee schedule.
Fee tiers on Kraken Pro were set per product. Your spot tier was based only on your spot trading volume, and if you also traded futures, that tier was calculated separately, on its own volume. Holding a balance on the platform, without trading it, had no effect on either tier.
What’s changing on July 9, 2026Starting today, your Kraken Pro fee tier is based on the best of three measures: your spot trading volume, your futures trading volume, or your AOP. You do not need to qualify through all three. Whichever one gets you the highest tier is the one applied to your account, and it applies to both your spot and futures rates. Qualifying through more than one measure at the same tier does not add any extra benefit beyond that tier.
Please note that for CA, US, and NZ customers, futures are not available or do not apply to cross-platform tier qualification. For customers in these countries, only spot trading volume and AOP count toward fee tier qualification.
Three ways to qualify for the same tier- Spot trading volume. Your trailing 30-day volume from spot and margin trades on Kraken Pro, across crypto-cash, crypto-crypto, and xStocks markets. Forex and stablecoin pairs, Instant Buy, and conversions do not count.
- Futures trading volume. Your trailing 30-day volume from futures trading on Kraken Pro.
- Assets on platform. The current USD value of eligible holdings in your Kraken wallet, including crypto, tokenized assets, and fiat, plus assets in Opt-In Rewards, staked assets, and Dual Investment balances.
You only need to meet the threshold in one column below to reach a given tier.
Tier qualification (meet any one of the three) TierSpot volume (30-day)Futures volume (30-day)Assets on platformTier 1$0+$5B$100M+ What counts, and what does not, toward AOPLoans, Embed parent client balances, and equities are not included in AOP. Everything else in your Kraken wallet, along with Opt-In Rewards, staking, and Dual Investment balances, counts at its current USD value.
That last part matters: AOP is assessed point-in-time, not averaged over 30 days like trading volume. If the market moves or you withdraw funds, your AOP-qualified tier adjusts immediately, in either direction.
Your tier applies to both productsOnce you have a tier, whether you reached it through spot volume, futures volume, or AOP, that same tier sets your rate on both the spot fee schedule and the futures fee schedule. A futures trader whose volume earns Tier 8 gets Tier 8 spot rates too, even with no spot activity, and the reverse is true for an active spot trader who occasionally trades futures.
If you hold more than you tradeIf you keep a meaningful balance in your Kraken wallet, in staking, in Opt-In Rewards, or in Dual Investment, that balance can now qualify you for a better tier on its own, even if you have not placed a trade recently. It is worth checking where your current holdings put you.
What this is notThis is a change to how tiers are calculated, not a blanket reduction in fees. It does not mean every account’s rate is going down, and a tier earned through AOP is not fixed. It moves with your balance, in either direction.
How to check your tierThere is nothing to opt into. Your account is placed in the correct tier automatically on July 9, 2026, based on whichever measure qualifies you for the highest rate. The new rates by tier are below. For the live version, see the Kraken Pro fee schedule.
