Binance has been making additional progress in covering the funds impacted by the massive security assault on their exchange, buying the rest of its tokens from both the marketplace and their OTC channel.

Meanwhile, the exchange has aggressively grown its Proof of Reserves coverage, providing increased transparency for its users.

Binance Replenishes 98% of Impacted Assets

Binance said approximately 98% of the affected amount has now been replenished, up from the 95% level disclosed in an earlier recovery update. The company has allocated a surplus of over 100% of its resources to the call for funding losses and claims that users will not be affected financially by the incident.

The other 2% is a little bit more difficult to replace because those tokens are not that liquid. Binance stated it will continue to purchase the assets from the public market and OTC platforms. Some of the balances that have been affected will be restored but replenishment may be longer as it is now in the last mile.

Recovery Moves Beyond the Largest Tokens

These more liquid assets were all accounted for in a prior post: 95% Milestone published earlier. The rest of the liquidity is believed to be swapping tokens that are not among the top five crypto assets by market value, and conducting large trades may require more effort.

The exchange is also gradually reinstating withdrawals, as it further tightens security measures.

Proof of Reserves Expands From 10 to 44 Tokens

Binance made a fresh snapshot of its Proof of Reserves on Nov. 4 at 00:00 UTC. There are 44 tokens included in the snapshot, versus only 10 in the previous reserve snapshot check post-incident.

The PoR system at Binance references a Merkle Tree structure and makes use of the zk-SNARK technology to enable buyers to confirm that they held a stability in the reserve snapshot without revealing specific account balances.

The exchange faces the computational heft, with the full ZKP mechanism to come up with the new snapshot taking roughly 50 to 60 hours. When complete, all users with any of the 44 supported tokens can verify their safety on their own through the ratio of backing of at least 1:1.

Binance Pushes Transparency After the Hack

The extended reserve snapshot provides a wider coverage of the time when Binance had a big problem.

While proof of reserves is not enough to ensure that an exchange is free of security events, it does establish a cryptographic assurance that funds in the covered accounts have equal balances in reserve assets.

Binance said it will keep acquiring the remaining tokens, restore more withdrawal services and publish further recovery updates as the process continues.
