Coinbase Opens Dedicated Access for AI AgentsThe Coinbase for Agents page enables users to integrate AI assistants that support the agency and grant their access to the agency’s Coinbase accounts. The list of compatible tools means that tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Perplexity, Cursor, Hermes and Muse are all supported for use with Coinbase. Any agent that supports Model Context Protocol (MCP) can connect, but Coinbase also provides a command-line tool to connect for non-MCP agents.
After the connection, an agent can browse markets, examine one to in several situations make trades according to instructions from the account owner. Coinbase emphasises that the AI isn’t meant for Coinbase to make investment decisions for them. Rather, it follows instructions and permissions set by the user.

Crypto Trading Moves Into Plain-Language CommandsThe major difference is that one can order trades without having to create a traditional trading bot in a programmatic language.
For instance, Coinbase provides examples like telling an agent to reprice a portfolio or make a recurring purchase of Bitcoin. More conditional instructions also are supported on the board, with reference to the market indicators.
Coinbase Adds Limits Around Automated TradingCoinbase has put in place several controls on access by agents. Users can seek approval prior to trades, create a separate portfolio for their agent and can pull disconnection anytime. Coinbase also states effective 8 a.m. ET on Tuesday, agents were not allowed to transfer money out of exchanges.
All agents are subject to a limit imposed by Coinbase, thus minimizing the access of automated software to the accounts. The firm also notes that AI agents may make mistakes and the user is still in charge of agent actions and their trading choices.
USDC Payments Give Agents Access to Premium DataAI agents are being paired with paid market data by Coinbase as well, with x402, an open payments standard for software agents.
Agent users in the US are able to access top-notch research and market data for purchase, without subscription or API key. Coinbase has set those limits at $5 per transaction and $50 a day at this point.
Unlike other platforms, there is no separate fee for Coinbase for agents, and trades by agents can be done with the same fees as the other Coinbase trades.
