Key Takeaways:
- The Cardano Foundation has inked a technology roadmap of three years duration with the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB).
- Digital identity, athlete certification, equipment-tracking and transparent governance will be a key interest for the initiative.
- The partnership is one of the biggest practical application deployments in the field of sports on the blockchain.
The Cardano Foundation is expanding its presence beyond finance with a new partnership aimed at modernizing one of the world’s largest sporting ecosystems. It has entered a three-year partnership with the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) to apply blockchain, AI and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to sports management and operations.
Big news: we’ve partnered with the Brazilian Olympic Committee (@timebrasil) to transform Olympic sport with public blockchain, IoT, and AI.
The three-year roadmap aims to position COB as the global benchmark in sports innovation.

Cardano Targets Real-World Olympic ApplicationsThe partnership is meant to create an inspiring example of innovation in sports around the world, Cardano said.
It has four pillars: digital identity and certification, fan engagement, equipment tracking, and governance transparency. Instead of starting a product or token development, the partnership is focused on real-world growing infrastructure that can enhance sports organizations to manage data and connect with athletes and fans.
As the project progresses towards implementation, they said the first executive workshop has already been held, and that pilot programs will come next.

Digital Identity and Transparent Record-KeepingAn early space being developed is a blockchain identities platform that supplies both athletes and coaches with a unified identifier that is unsecure to hackers and third parties.
Verifiable Credentials for Athletes and CoachesThe objective of the system is to develop safe digital credentials which can be verified across the globe. This could help to decrease the need for paper certificates and facilitate verification of certificates between computer organizations and competitions.
Another possible use case for the partnership will be to discuss using blockchain records for equipment management. The Brazilian Olympic Committee is aiming to enhance transparency and efficiency across its sporting activities by introducing transparent and permanent records.
COB Director General Emanuel Rego described the initiative as more than a technology upgrade, emphasizing that innovation can help build stronger relationships with athletes, federations, and the public.
Brazil Emerges as a Strategic Market for CardanoThe Olympic Committee agreement is no exception to a number of initiatives Cardano has implemented in Brazil. The Cardano Foundation worked on several partnerships in the past few months that involved public sector innovation, blockchain education, digital identity solutions, and emerging technologies. The organization has also cooperated with academic and government related institutions to facilitate country-wide, hands-on use of blockchain.
When a sports event is so big, the COB partnership is unique in providing the Cardano technology. If successful, the project offers a showcase for Decentralized Identity Network to use Public Blockchains for everyday administrative tasks, beyond traditional cryptocurrency applications.
